Dr Lozada is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Chief (acting) of the Division of Rheumatology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL and Director of the Rheumatology Fellowship Program, University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, FL.

Dr Lozada completed a BA in biology at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA where he was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar, and his MD at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, San Juan, Puerto Rico where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr Lozada pursued his residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital, Weill Cornell University Medical College, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, and completed his rheumatology fellowship at New York University Medical Center/Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York City, NY. He has been a member of faculty in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 1994, serving on the medical staffs of Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, Miami, FL. For over 20 years Dr Lozada has served as Director of the Rheumatology Fellowship Program and the Jackson Memorial Hospital Rheumatology Clinic, training medical students, residents, international rotators and over 50 rheumatology fellows.

Dr Lozada has multiple peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, particularly in Osteoarthritis, and has served on the editorial boards for various journals including Osteoarthritis and Cartilage and the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology. Dr Lozada has served in volunteer positions for many organizations, particularly the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) where he has served on committees such as Training and Workforce, Communications, Finance and Nominations, as well as on the boards of directors of the ACR and the Rheumatology Research Foundation. He chaired the ACR task force that implemented the use of enhanced recovery after surgery and the Medical Subspecialties Matching Program in Rheumatology and was a member of the group that developed the first rheumatology national in-training exam. Dr Lozada has also been a member of the board of directors of the United States Bone and Joint Decade and is currently chair of the executive committee of the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) and president of the Pan-American League of Associations for Rheumatology (PANLAR).
